Driving Deeper Into the Scottish Highlands | Van Life Scotland | Epic Waterfalls, Snow & Wild Moments. This week, we head deeper into the Scottish Highlands, finding a community aire and tackling a rope bridge to an epic waterfall. Our latest vanlife adventure showcases the beauty of a Scotland road trip, proving that sometimes the best way to travel is to embrace slow travel. We share our experiences and lessons learned from seven years on the road. After leaving Glencoe, we point Old Gertie north and follow the road as it pulls us further into the mountains. The scenery tightens, the valleys darken, and the Highlands start to feel colder, quieter, and more remote. This is slow travel at its best — the kind of driving that makes you lower your voice and really take it all in. We park up in Kinlochleven, a former aluminium smelting town turned peaceful Highland gateway, perfectly placed between sea lochs, steep hills, and waterfalls. Staying at a handy community aire with electric, water, and waste facilities, we set out on foot to explore one of the area’s hidden gems — a stunning waterfall tucked just minutes from the village. Crossing wooden planks and edging closer to the falls, the sound of rushing water and icy air makes this feel like a true Scottish Highlands adventure. Back at the van, we do what van lifers do best — simple comforts, a movie night, and a takeaway that turns out to be enough food for six. Not every van life moment is glamorous, but that’s exactly why we love it. The next morning, with the days getting shorter and winter tightening its grip, we hit the legendary A82, hands down one of our favourite roads in the UK. Driving through towering mountains and historic landscapes, the scale of Scotland never fails to humble us. Sunlight breaks through the clouds, we pull over for lunch with unreal views, and then continue on in search of our next overnight park-up. That night, we settle in at Bridge of Orchy, surrounded by mountains and total silence — until an evening dog walk turns into an unforgettable wildlife encounter. Deer, birds of prey, icy mornings, and the quiet magic that only Scotland seems to deliver. We wake before sunrise to snowfall, coffee in hand, watching the Highlands slowly disappear under a fresh layer of white. Snow wasn’t part of the plan, but that’s van life — adapting, staying safe, and embracing whatever the road throws your way.
