The bi‐level airway pressure (BiPAP®) machine helps a person breathe better by pushing air into the lungs to fill them up. Some conditions, like muscle weakness, lower the amount of air a person breathes in and out. People who have a neuromuscular disease can slowly lose lung volume (how much air the lungs can hold) if their lungs do not fill up with enough air when breathing.
