From inspiring newly decolonised nations in Asia and Africa, to laying the foundation of the Non-Aligned Movement, to refusing to annex Bangladesh even in 1971 — Nehru built India’s credibility as a leader of peace and friendship. Today, when Prime Minister Modi talks about South–South solidarity, he is standing on Nehru’s foundation.
