The main events of the Ffestiniog Railway's 70th Anniversary weekend started on Friday, with 'Upnor Castle' departing from Harbour Station at 07.00 bound for Blaenau Ffestiniog. The first decent shots I managed to get were at Tan-y-Bwlch, where we passed Harlech Castle with the drench train. The journey above there, passing Dduallt and the Deviation, brought back memories of childhood holidays in the 70s. On the way back we passed 'Hugh Napier' and 'Britomart' at Tanygrisiau, and I alighted at Minffordd to get some video of 'Moelwyn' with a train representing those which were run in the early days of the new regime, to clear the line up to Tan-y-Bwlch and Dduallt. I then caught the crowded train hauled by 'Hugh Napier' and 'Britomart' down to Boston Lodge and saw various locomotives and trains through most of the day, before heading back to Porthmadog and seeing 'Linda' and 'Blanche' returning from their trip up to Caernarfon. Note that much of this video was shot through the open window of the carriage. This was done with knowledge of the route developed over the last 50+ years. There are places on the railway where I would never do this, because clearances are EXTREMELY tight and there is a high risk of serious injury to those who are not familiar with the route.
