Kai Ko reports to Taipei District Prosecutor's office on drug charges

(15 Oct 2014) KAI KO APOLOGIZES AT PRESS CONFERENCE Taipei's District Prosecutors Office has ordered actor Kai Ko to go into a treatment program to overcome drug addiction. The 23-year-old actor was arrested in Beijing on August 14th for drug use, together with Jaycee Chan, the son of Hong Kong kung fu superstar Jackie Chan. After returning home on September 19th, Ko also faced charges from Taiwan's law enforcement. He was summoned to report to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on Wednesday October 15th, for further questioning. While the results of his hair and urine test came back positive, the prosecutors took into consideration that this is his first drug offense and Ko has fully cooperated with the police. The actor was sentenced to pay to enter a treatment program to overcome his addiction. Ko gave a brief interview after meeting with the prosecutors for 2 hours and apologized again. "This is a mistake that I made. However, all the actors, crew, director, investors who work with me have to withstand this kind of pressure. I'm very sorry. I will respect the movie company's arrangement," he said. After the interview, Ko was whisked away by a waiting vehicle. Ko became an overnight sensation after making his acting debut in the 2011 box office smash hit, "You Are the Apple of My Eye." His performance won him the "Best New Performer" award from the prestigious Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. Ko also had a lead role in the successful Chinese franchise "Tiny Times." After his arrest, sponsors cut ties and film companies diminished his roles. The Chinese police began a wide crackdown on drug use after President Xi Jinping declared in June that illegal drugs should be wiped out. Entertainment companies have been urged not to hire artists or actors who have been arrested on drug-related charges.
