Episode # 5824 THE PRETTIEST GIRL IN TOWN Original airdate: 3-08-59 This is the story of Connie Van, a successful New York fashion model played by Loretta Young, who returns home to her small town for the twentieth reunion of her high school class. As always, she is still the prettiest girl in town, but for all her popularity she is not content. Staying with an old girlfriend, she again meets the boy who asked her to marry him the night before she left for fame and fortune in New York City. Connie eventually discovers that her former boyfriend (played by James Philbrook) may be the only person in the world who can bring her true happiness. Philbrook appeared in supporting roles in three short-lived television series between 1959 and 1963: The Islanders on ABC and The Investigators and The New Loretta Young Show, both on CBS. He also appeared in several major films, as Bruce King in I Want to Live! (1958) and Henri in Woman Obsessed, both with Susan Hayward, and as Colonel Tall in the 1964 war picture The Thin Red Line, with Jack Warden. Philbrook died on October 24, 1982 (aged 58) in Los Angeles, California. Betty Lou Gerson, playing Jackie Crump, was a frequent co-star on this series who was predominantly active in radio, but also in film and television, and as a voice actress. She is best known as the voice of the villainous, selfish socialite Cruella de Vil from Walt Disney's animated film, One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) for which she was named a Disney Legend in 1996. Gerson died from a massive stroke in Los Angeles on January 12, 1999, at the age of 84 Written and directed by Richard Morris Cast: Connie Van Loretta Young Dr. Earl Luke James Philbrook Jackie Crump Betty Lou Gerson Arnold Crump Hal Smith Sally Crump Pamela Dean
