South African SDG Hub's Goal of the Month Campaign- SDG 1 No Poverty

We kick off our 'SDG Goal of the Month' campaign, by focusing on SDG 1 (No poverty). Eradicating poverty in all its forms remains one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. More than 700 million people, which is 10 percent of the global population, still live in extreme poverty today, struggling to fulfil the most basic needs like health, education, and access to water and sanitation, to name a few. 80 percent of those living in extreme poverty live in sub-Saharan Africa. COVID - 19 has led to the first rise in extreme poverty in a generation with an additional 120+ million people being pushed back into extreme poverty. We chat to Professor Chitiga-Mabugu, the Dean of the EMS Faculty at the University of Pretoria, and an expert in poverty, inequality and public policy.
