Hello to all the duplicants. How about an oil well setup? I got two versions for you. This is the simplest setup I could come up with and the first of the two. The second is following soon. Is it flawless? No. But it runs very robust and doesn't break as easy as other setups; I still managed to "break" ALL of the tested versions under certain circumstances. Clarification: I tried to avoid the setups to "break" as in: no water in the wrong pipes, no gaspipe breaking, no overpressure destroying tiles, no buildings getting destroyed because of overheating. I put all of the oil well versions i know, seen on youtube or specially created for this in a stress test situation. How I tested: 0. Dupes with no atmosuit skills and a machinery skill of 0 to 5 (then i exchanged them). 1. 10x Speed. 2. No cooling allowed. 3. Only gold amalgam (for the pumps), copper, ceramic for the insulation or simpler materials. 4.a For some time using Water up to 98,5-99 °C and let it run non-stop for some hours. 4.b For some time using Water under 90 °C and let it run non-stop for some hours . (If the Water is under 90°C the crude oil will still always be output at 90°C). 5. For some time I let them run dry and started them again. 6. Setting of at least 75% back-pressure 7. Added more natural gas (in the temperature range the oil well does) 8. Added more steam (in the temperature range the oil well does) 9. Condensated the steam to see what happens 10. A mixture of all above I tested them with and without the gaspump Conclusion: If you use water under 90°C the chance any system "breaking" is low If you use water above 90°C the chance of different unpleasent results increases. If you use very hot water around 98°C it is better to run the system NON-STOP because the fresh crude oil is the only cooling the system has. Sooner or later there will be steam if you don't active cool the system. Even if the oil well runs dry there is always that last water package with less than 10kg remaining inside the oil well; This water package will then flash to steam when it reaches around 99.4 °C. This steam causes the gaspipes to break if it gets pumped by a gaspump and cools down even a little bit. If it does not cool down you have water popping up where your steam outlet is. To prevent this some might put a high value for the air pressure sensor. This just delays the inevitable it still WILL happen. If the steam condensates to water some setups break instantly some others like this let the water sit on top of the crude oil until the next ventilation cycle. Then the hot ~220°C natural gas flashed it back to steam and it can run again. Worst case: the water and crude oil build weird layers and the overpressure destroys the tiles of the room. If you let the building overpressure to 100% and no dupe comes there will be steam at times you normally don't get steam. The best solutions i found were: Dont care about the steam. Filter the output crude oil. Condensate the steam and recycle it back to the system. If you want to save on some power/time for pump you can add a hydro sensor right on top of it and set it to a small amount of liquid (the liquid pump room will be filled with crude oil completely when you do that even when the sensor is set to 1kg) -not testet.
