In this episode of Why I Blame Everything on Colonialism, we look at how gentrification in the Philippines didn’t come out of nowhere. The systems we inherited shaped the way we build our cities from hillside condos marketed as “world-class,” to zoning laws and development standards designed for profit, not people. Colonialism didn’t leave our shores. It simply changed form. It became our idea of what “modern living” looks like. It became the belief that foreign-inspired designs equal progress. It became developments built for investors and foreigners, while Filipinos are pushed further out or pushed overseas. Because here’s the painful truth: the Philippines doesn’t just export products. It exports people. Millions of us leave every year for stability we can’t find at home, while local land is reshaped for a market we’re not even part of. This episode isn’t about blaming Filipinos it’s about understanding how history still shapes our housing, our cities, and the choices many of us are forced to make. When we recognise the pattern, we can finally start to break it. #fypシ #series #gentrificacion #whyiblameeverythingoncolonialism
