Filling control or construction joints in concrete is often avoided because future cracking is expected to occur. While it’s true that no amount of joint prep or repair (even stitching) will stop a slab that wants to move, there are a few steps that can be taken to minimize the likelihood of future cracking. The video shows a cured slab that has two control joints. Their width is +/-1/4” and appear to be cracked (open) to the ground below. The first step is to profile the joints’ vertical walls. Having been previously cut, the aim here is to clean these joint surfaces. Once clean, dry quartz is added to fill them up. The sand acts as a compressible bottom filler, and it closes up the voids that would otherwise swallow the joint filler. The excess is removed to allow a 1/2” pocket where the filler will be placed. To complete the filling process, the semi-rigid urethane is poured into the joint. Once cured, a handgrinder is passed over the joint to flatten it. 🇺🇸💪🏽🇺🇸💪🏽🇺🇸 #SURFACEPREPARATION #SEAMLESSFLOOR
