Amid concerns over LPG supply and rising demand, the Greater Bengaluru Authority has started exploring a sustainable solution through biogas production from organic waste. Officials recently visited the biogas facility in Koramangala to understand how the system works and how it can support the city’s commercial sector.The initiative focuses on converting wet solid waste into biogas, which can be used as an alternative fuel source. This move is expected to benefit hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments that depend heavily on LPG cylinders for daily cooking operations.Earlier, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike had constructed 12 biogas plants across the city. However, only six plants are currently operational, while the remaining six units are undergoing renovation and modernization.According to officials, one ton of wet waste can produce around 30–50 kg of biogas. Each plant processes approximately 5 tons of organic waste daily, generating nearly 200 kg of biogas.
