This is my entry for the Shogun Jimi Valentine's Day Challenge 2017. If you don't know who Shogun Jimi is go check out his You tube Channel link below. This started off as something completely different. I wanted to do a stone carving on the face of this stone but wanted the stone to be free standing. Unfortunately the bottom was not level and it leaned forward quite a bit. I tried to carve the bottom so that it would stand straight or at least a little closer to 90 degrees as possible so it wouldn't tip over so easily. After several minutes of carving I had made little progress. And then while carving the stone I had a large piece blow out of the bottom which pretty much ruined my chance of getting it to stand upright. So I moved on to plan "B". I decided to try and carve a heart out of the stone. And later decided to carve my wife's and my initials in to the center of the stone heart. But after I carved the letters it seemed somewhat plain so that's when I tried to do a metal inlay of sorts. At first I just melted the solder in to the carved letters but it didn't stick. Once it cooled the letters came out fairly easily. So I decided to clean up the letters and epoxy them in place. This method worked the letters stuck this time. After I glued the letters down I got some 100 grit sandpaper and sanded around the letters to make some stone dust that I could use to fill in the gaps and soak up the residual epoxy. Plan "B" was a success. Why? Because my wife liked it and in this case that's all the matters. Thanks for watching.
