Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) causes itchy, burning, watery eyes, blurred vision, eye twitches, mucous discharge and extreme sensitivity to light. It mostly affects children and adolescents, and is often overlooked or misdiagnosed because some of the symptoms are similar to other eye conditions. VKC usually strikes during allergy season, but it can be present all year round. Left untreated, it can have a significant impact on a child's quality of life - and in extreme cases can lead to vision loss.
