Banana season is here, and in today’s video, you’ll see how we turn a rich banana harvest into creamy desserts, crispy banana chips, and a flavorful black banana blossom curry — all cooked in my Sri Lankan village kitchen. From plantains that fell after heavy rains to warm banana cakes served with tea, this is natural food harvest and traditional cooking at its finest. ➡️ After the downpour, I found two banana bunches on the tea land — one perfectly ripe, the other spoiled. We used the good plantains for a mango banana cream cake made with fresh milk, butter, corn flour, egg yolk, and vanilla — a melt-in-your-mouth treat. I gave a full bunch to the monkeys near the stream, who finished them in seconds! I also fried raw plantains into crunchy chips for my brother and baked a rich banana chocolate cake, served hot with tea for guests helping with Uncle’s Bana function. My father had promised plantains for the event, so Uncle Sumith buried several bunches to ripen naturally. The next day, I cooked a spicy black curry using banana blossom and a traditional Sri Lankan spice blend. For lunch, we had fried dhal curry, winged beans mallum, mango curry, carrot salad, tempered beans, boiled eggs, and chilies — all wrapped into fragrant banana leaf lunch packets. Father enjoyed his to the last bite! We ended with fresh papaya from the garden. ➡️ Two days later, we dug up the ripened plantains and brought them to Uncle’s house, along with sweets prepared by Aunty Alawathi, as requested by my mother. The home was filled with the aroma of banana recipes and the spirit of village tradition. This video is full of banana-based recipes — banana cream cake, banana chips, black curry, and more — made with homegrown ingredients and the heart of Sri Lankan village cooking. 💬 What’s your favorite way to cook with bananas — sweet desserts or savory dishes?
