Exploring old west ghost towns has been a popular trend in recent years and one of the most famous is Goldfield, Nevada. Goldfield was one of the richest gold strikes in the entire west and like so many others it did not take long for the town to be abandoned after the pay dirt ran out. Goldfield now lies in a state of limbo awaiting an occasional tourist to pass through. A steadfast group of residents have been trying to put this famous old west town back on the map and there are restoration projects in progress. Goldfield is a prime example of a ghost town that is being reborn a tourist attraction! Goldfield is a living ghost town and it is starting to become a thriving one at that. The old buildings from the gold mining days are still intact and they are well preserved. There are many folks in this community who are descendants of mine workers that chose to remain in this town after the mining operations were no longer feasible. There are also quite a few newcomers that have called Goldfield home in recent years, because this town offers some good old fashioned peace and quiet for artisans. Promoting the historic downtown area as being a main street style attraction seems to be the key to success in Goldfield. The main street area hosts a few curios shops, antique shops and art galleries. Fine arts and antiques shops seem to be the direction of the community business plan, which certainly captures the interest of weekend warriors seeking a day trip destination. The main attraction of Goldfield happens to be the old abandoned brick buildings that are in pristine condition. The old Goldfield Hotel was shuttered after the gold mining days came to a sudden end and this old building still looks new. The desert does have a way of keeping old structures intact because rainfall is minimal. Downtown Goldfield is kind of like opening a time capsule from the past. Paranormal tourism has become a money making industry in recent years and there is one old brick building in Goldfield that is scary enough to make a ghost hunter run for cover! The old red brick Goldfield Schoolhouse is a prime time paranormal tourism destination that has a morbid past. Apparently there was a sadistic schoolmaster back in the early days that did unspeakable things to children and a few of the kids perished by means of torture. With this in mind, it does not take much effort to see ghostly apparitions in this haunted place. The old Goldfield Hotel is also supposed to be extremely haunted and some of the apparitions have been documented. Halloween is the best time for booking a paranormal tour for obvious reasons. Artists seems to understand the sense of die hard reasoning that can be found in a ghost town all too well. Nevada ghost towns are havens for artists that are not attracted to mainstream ways of life. Some of the best desert art that can be imagined can be found in old ghost towns, so it pays to check out the main street galleries when passing through. Ghost towns are also famous for being the home of a different kind of artist that specializes in what is known as outdoor apocalyptic art or plain old traditional junkyard art. The rusty metallic remnants of the past are the medium for this art form, which includes everything from old galvanized wash tubs to wrecked luxury cars. In fact, the most popular roadside apocalyptic outdoor art displays are those that incorporate old junkyard automobiles. The VW Slug Bug Ranch and the Cadillac Ranch on Route 66 in Texas are prime examples of intriguing auto salvage apocalyptic art. In Goldfield Ghost Town, the local apocalyptic outdoor art gallery is the International Car Forest Of The Last Church, which truly is something interesting to experience when passing through! On the south side of Goldfield Ghost Town there is an off-highway vehicle recreation area where the open air art gallery called The International Car Forest of The Last Church can be found. The dirt roads are a bit too rough for an ordinary passenger car, but taking a leisurely stroll through the Car Forest is always an option. In the Car Forest, a visitor will find all sorts of trucks, buses, station wagons and sedans that are planted nose first in the ground. The local artist paints designs on the cars. As far as apocalyptic art is concerned, the Car Forest is a feast for the eyes! This recreation area is privately funded and the visitor donations at the onsite artist residency are what keeps this cool scene alive. 00:00 Title 00:15 Goldfield Ghost Town 14:20 International Car Forest Of The Last Church 15:20 Fin
