Yedid Nefesh

Yedid Nefesh is the title of this beautiful poem. It is usually song on Shabbat before beginning the prayers for Kabalat Shabbat. Some sing it during Seudah Shelishit (the third meal on Shabbat; the first is on Friday night, the second on Shabbat lunch, and the third on Shabbat before nightfall). This poem is commonly attributed to the sixteenth century kabbalist, Rabbi Elazar ben Moshe Azikri (1533-1600), and it centers around the intense love one must feel for G-d. The first letters of each of the four verses make up the four letter name of G-d. This prayer can be found on page 151 in the Chabad Tehillat Hashem Annotated Edition
