Inspired by Carlo Collodi's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, Lies of P tells the story Pinocchio, a robotic "puppet". However, unlike other puppets, Pinocchio has the capability to lie, which will play a role during important story decisions. Puppets were invented in the city of Krat thanks to the discovery of a revolutionary power source, Ergo, underneath the city. Puppets soon became ubiquitous throughout the city, performing most of the menial labor for the populace. Foremost among the puppet inventors is the legendary Geppetto, who created Pinocchio. In order to ensure that Puppets would not be a threat, all puppets were bound to the Grand Covenant, which forbids puppets from lying or attacking humans. However, despite this, one day the puppets revolt, slaughtering most of the human population of Krat. In addition to the puppets, Krat also suffers from the mysterious Petrification Disease which blinds its victims before fully petrifying and destorying them. There currently is no known cure to the disease.
