Re-watch the online event "Funding Queerness/Queering Funding", which critically explored the various issues and opportunities surrounding processes of funding queer art and activism. Four speakers from the Prince Claus Fund's network came together to share their thoughts and experiences on how queer artists and activists navigate legibility, visibility, and safety in their interactions with international funding bodies. Featuring: Khalid Abdel-Hadi (Palestine/Jordan): visual artist, activist, and founder of queer-feminist webzine My.Kali; Elyla (Nicaragua): performance artist, activist, and 2021 Seed Awardee; Mika’il, the Muezzin (South Africa): storyteller, translator, social sculptor, and 2022 Building Beyond Awardee; Otherandelse (Uganda): writer and visual artist, who joined us under a pseudonym for their own protection given the recent anti-LGBTQIA+ in their country. This rich and inspiring session has left us with much to think about as we continue to improve the work that we do. Respecting the nuanced situation of queer practitioners during the application, implementation, and reporting phases of funding is paramount in a space where access to resources is often dependent on visibility and a willingness to take risks. Thank you to all participants!
