The unanimous opinion of exhibitors and visitors: It's good that the 18 months have passed since the Pack Expo East in March 2020, because virtual formats are even more unsuitable in mechanical engineering. The packaging and processing industry is meeting again this week, for what is perhaps the most important PACK EXPO and Healthcare Packaging EXPO in its history. Although 2020 was a record year for packaging machines and the total size of the market in the USA had increased by around 14% to 12.3 billion US dollars, many innovations were lacking, as the industry was waiting to see each other again. Over 23,000 attendees eager to find solutions to their current challenges are strolling through the four spacious exhibit halls. Organizers, exhibitors and visitors clearly show that they are tired of virtual meetings and want to meet live. Even with the international travel restrictions still in force, some international exhibitors and visitors were missing. On more than 740,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space in the Convention Center, over 1,500 exhibitors showed their innovations to an interested audience. There is no question that many specialist lectures are also well received. This makes the Pack Expo in Las Vegas the largest and most successful trade show of 2021 to date in the USA. Even if there is still some space in the exhibition halls and one or the other exhibitor was unable to take part, most of the big Europeans companies are showing up at PACK EXPO. Siemens is showing, among other things, the cybersecurity platform SiberProtect and the real-time location system RTLS. As at other trade shows in the USA, Beckhoff is present with a large booths. And medium-sized businesses as well as so called hidden champions from Germany are also well positioned for the restart at this special Pack Expo. So you can already hear a variety of international languages in the corridors. Of course, the pandemic isn’t over yet and it’s evident everywhere due to the mask requirement. But exhibitors and visitors were equally enthusiastic about the offers and, above all about the new possibilities. Many companies emphasize that they are completely satisfied with the flow of customers and that the industry clearly has some catching up to do. The industry is already eagerly awaiting the next big Pack Expo in Chicago in October 2022 - then hopefully without any restrictions.
