Rescuing Millefiori; a baby flying-fox found on her dead mother.

Note: I should have had gloves on while doing this, but when I arrived at the rescue, I couldn't find any gloves in my car; I must've taken them out to wash them and not returned them. Please don't handle bats; even baby bats can scratch you when they grab you, because to be hooked onto something means they feel secure; the baby flying-foxes have incredibly sharp claws with an extra barb under the tips to help them velcro onto their mothers in flight. I accepted a rescue call for a live baby on a dead mumbat at the Flour Mills. These were active flour mills but were converted in stages to an apartment block development about 10ish years ago. I don't know why the mumbat died; there are no marks on her suggesting a collision with a car or a tangle with power lines. But baby is alive and doing well. It's such a delight to have a baby who pees almost immediately and looks active and bright eyed. The little blonde backed girl is a good weight for 12 days old. Let's hope that this delightful lassie has a trouble free time whilst in our care. Her name came from the Flour Mills. Welcome to my brain process: Flour/Flower/Fiori, and Mills/mille. Millefiori means 1000 flowers. Lets hope our little Fiori has a million flowers in her life... Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties.
