A juvenile cockatiel. This cockatiel is probably more than 6 months old when this video was made. This is a pearl cockatiel (people usually call it that). At first, we thought this was a male cockatiel, because it can make unique sounds typical of male cockatiels, which female cockatiels usually can't do. As you can see in this video. This cockatiel can sing, whistle and others. But that assumption became irrelevant when I saw this cockatiel mating with one of the male lutino cockatiels, and this pearl cockatiel took the position as the female. I became curious and several other assumptions arose. In the end, we decided to move the male lutino cockatiel so that it would not "disturb" this pearl cockatiel. But it turned out that this pearl cockatiel still mated, this time with one of the male pied cockatiels, and this pearl cockatiel still took the position as the female. This made me sure that the pearl cockatiel was a female, and decided to move the pearl cockatiel and the pied cockatiel into a separate place from each other, so that the two cockatiels could breed. And in short, until now (when this video was published), this pearl cockatiel has not laid a single egg, even though the pearl cockatiel and pied have mated many times, especially in September 2024, almost every day. This made me no longer sure that this cockatiel was female. Actually, this doubt about gender can be more easily identified if this cockatiel is DNA tested. So far, we have not done DNA tests on our cockatiels, because our place is far from such facilities.
