Please start by telling us a little bit about your background 2. Could you share with us about your earlier career path and your motivations or inspiration? What made you decide to jump in corporate governance and act as the pioneer to develop it? 3. You said you believe that if we can improve governance on the planet it will be a safer place to live, do you mean the corporate governance only or it can apply to individuals as well? 4. Could you share more about what The Corporate Governance Institute is doing and how it is able to inspire and empower the head of a company? What do you believe are the most important aspects of an effective corporate governance system? 5. What advice would you give to organizations looking to invest in corporate governance initiatives? 6. So on 10th November 2022, the European Parliament voted to pass the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) - a new ESG policy framework that combines financial data, ESG information and assurance for the first time. What is your opinion on this? 7. With the official announcement of CSRD, more and more organisations will be required to go deeper in managing the associated risks and implementing an appropriate ESG framework. So how did the CGI have prepared to support them? 8. In fact, the UK has also begun a programme of making it mandatory for a range of entities to report on their climate-related risk in line with the recommendations of the global Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Do you think that this a big step from the UK government as a pioneer in ESG education to global businesses? 9. What advantages do you think corporate governance and ESG provide to investors in emerging economies? David Duffy Biography David graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Bachelor of Business Studies Degree and is a Chartered Accountant, trained with PwC in London. He also holds an MBA from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland. He co-founded The Corporate Governance Institute to democratise the education of directors globally by providing accredited and online programmes, so learners can learn where they want, when they want. It is now the largest provider of qualified company directors globally. David has an extensive experience in assisting organisations to improve their governance in listed and private companies, financial institutions, public sector organisations, hospitals and healthcare organisations, national and international non-profits, charities, membership organisations, sporting bodies, universities, regulators, and rails transportation organisations He is a member of the Institute of Directors in Dublin and the UK. He was a board member of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, The Ireland Funds, Eurogroup Paris, Health Tech Ireland, Trinity Business Alumni, IMD Alumni Ireland, and Carr’s Children’s Services. He is a former President of Trinity Business Alumni and The Institute of Management Consultants. He is currently on the board of Accounting Technicians Ireland, David has authored “The Practical Guide To” series, with three books already under the flagship, published by Chartered Accountants Ireland. He is a frequent speaker on corporate governance and has spoken at various conferences and webinars in Dublin, Dubai, Cyprus, Lausanne, London, and Tehran.
