The anal canal contains mucus. Mucus is there in the whole of intestinal tract like how we have saliva in the intestinal tract to keep it lubricant and moist. So these mucus are there from mouth to anus. Here can be collection of mucus in the rectum and mucous can be too lax and can come out of the anal canal. If there is inflammation or irritation the rectum called as Proctitis, more mucus is produced as a discharge. So if the rectal mucosa is partly outside it can come out these are the common causes of mucus discharge. There can be pus discharge that can be treated with antibiotics.
