Going to Shimla from the plains of north India would be a breeze soon as construction of four-lane road from Parwanoo to Shimla has started. The land acquisition process for the construction of the important road has been completed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) from Parwanoo to Solan. Process is on to acquire land from Solan to Shimla. The proposed 106-km strecth has, however, brought swords hanging on the fate of over 650 houses. Under the project five tunnels will be constructed to de-congest traffic at narrow points and is likely to reduce the distance from Shimla to Kalka by nearly 17 kilometre. The first tunnel will be excavated along the bypass connecting Solan town to Kumarhatti. The tunnel will be used only for one way traffic while the second proposed tunnel in Kandaghat bypass will be for two-way traffic. As per the proposed plan, about 27-km stretch of National Highway from Kaithlighat in Solan district will be realigned.
