Peter and Paul Cathedral is one of enduring faith and transformation. Established in 1628 by Franciscan missionaries, the parish was originally dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua before being rededicated to Sts. Peter and Paul in 1792. The church has undergone numerous reconstructions over the centuries due to natural disasters, most notably after a powerful earthquake in 1954. On June 29, 1951, its importance was formally recognized when it was elevated to a cathedral, coinciding with the creation of the Diocese of Sorsogon and solidifying its position as the center of faith for the province.
