Pesach Shabbat: Passover Sabbath | Erev Shabbat 2025

Join us for our Erev Shabbat service We will be going through the weekly teachings from Monte Judah. This week’s portion is not a designated reading portion. This week includes Passover Day and the High Sabbath of the Feast of Unleavened Bread; therefore, the teaching is a review of the commandments to memorialize the Exodus from Egypt. Passover is one day, and the Feast of Unleavened goes for seven days. On the first and last days of Unleavened Bread, we observe a High Sabbath. The first High Sabbath commemorates when the children of Israel gathered and built their sukkahs (sukkot). The cloud by day and fire by night began to lead them out of Egypt. On the last High Sabbath, we remember the crossing of the Red Sea when Israel finally left the land of Egypt. Each year, as we keep this feast, we must ask ourselves, ‘what is leaven?’ and each year we must search for the leaven in our own lives.
