We watched the original Point Break 1991 version with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, we got drunk and this is what followed. Dustin insisted we do a Point Break episode because it's his all-time favorite movie. I love it as well but it's far from my favorite. In this episode we talk about the good the bad and the fugly, including the Point Break Remake, similarities to The Fast and the Furious, and the crazy Keanu Reeves filmography. It was hard to nail down our favorite Point Break scene but we had a good time talking about it. I even discovered a false memory that I thought had been burned into my brain from child hood. Whilte Point Break isn't a great movie, it's not even the best surfing movie (Endless Summer), but it's really great at capturing the California culture as it transitioned from the 80s to the 90s. Point break doesn't feel like an eighties movie but it's not really a nineties movie either. Instead, it captures this really interesting period in time. A feeling, the Point Break remake would have never been able to capture. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow who happened to be married to James Cameron at the time, point break shows some early directorial promise for a future Academy Award winning director (The Hurt Locker).
