Starting with the rich musical traditions of the Balkans, we’ll then explore a range of countries, uncovering the sounds and stories of these rare instruments. We’re joined by the talented Sakis Giorgou, who will share insights into the instrument’s history, structure, and technique, along with a live demonstration of its enchanting sound. Follow Sakis at: / @sakisgiorgou George Athanasios (Σάκης Γιώργου) Born in 1972 in Rodolivos, Serres, George Athanasios is a musician and educator deeply connected to the traditional music of his homeland - Greece. Initially learning the trumpet in his village's Philharmonic Orchestra, he later mastered the oud under renowned teachers, including Yurdal Tokcan. He has collaborated with leading traditional artists like Chronis Aidonidis and Dilek Koc, participating in concerts and recordings as a singer and instrumentalist. Since 2006, he has been a key member of the traditional music group "Empirotechnes" while continuing to teach literature in secondary education.
