Now that I know how to do the FL style automatic banking, my Freelancer Flight Simulator is finally complete! This banking into turns, which allows the fighters to use more than one component of their turn torques in a coordinated turn, was the missing ingredient and the final thing that was holding it back from being accurate. All of this requires tight interplay between the ship and the camera, so I had to rewrite roughly 70% of the camera rig because it was totally incompatible with this control scheme. This even simulates the auto level, which in reality is not actually an auto level, but it’s the camera rotating to match the horizon, and the ship just rolling to match like it always does. The banking implies a ton of subtle nuances that were very distinct to Freelancer and they’re all finally here. This was a silly and hyper-niche project but I’m so happy that I can finally consider it finished. P.S. I know the sounds are weird. Something weird is going on with camera listening to a moving audio source while moving itself that's freaking it out and causing it to sound skippy and strange.
