Beer & Cigar Pairing with A Brewmaster!

I met up with Jeff and Randy, brewers at the famed Basic City Brewery in Waynesboro, VA! We cycled through various cigars trying to pair with a 4% English Pub Ale they just released a couple days ago. Pairing cigars with beer has always been harder than spirits, and crafting lower ABV Beer is an art just like a milder cigar is an art. Yes, it rained the entire time thanks to Hurricane Helene hitting the coast. Power went out about an hour into the session as transformers lit up the darkened sky (at 1pm) with their teal luminescence. Pairing a 4% English Pub Ale was WAY harder than I imagined, and I shot my best shot first with one of my favorite cigars lately. Luckily though, with trial and error, we both agreed that we found a winner. In case you're wondering, whenever I do local pairing events this is the exact process that I go through. If I'm trying to find a cigar that stands up to a specific beer, I'll bring multiple cigars with an educated guess and see what pairs best. If I'm trying to find a beer to go with a certain cigar in mind, I'll get a flight of beers and work my way through them until I can find something that is a 10/10 pairing. Sometimes it's the beer that I least expected that pairs best with my cigar.
