Howdy! This is some chrysocolla we had found in Utah. I thought it would be a good idea to make a how-to video on stabilizing porous / crumbly material, like chrysocolla sometimes is. This idea came from my friend, Rob. Thank you, Rob! MAY FILL VOIDS* 4:18-4:42 Clear resin epoxy Acetone Mason jar Mason jar vacuum sealer Gloves Tongs Well ventilated area 1. First fill mason jar with 4 parts of acetone, then 1 part epoxy resin. Stir or shake until the epoxy resin dissolves into the acetone. 2. Add your material to the mix in the mason jar. Put the lid on the mason jar, put the vacuum jar sealer on the mason jar and let it vacuum for 120 seconds, then another 120 seconds. 3. For a 4:1 ratio of acetone to epoxy resin, wait 2 days. Each morning, give the jars a little shake to allow the air bubbles to escape nooks and crannies. 4. After 2 days, remove your material from the mason jars. Allow the material to dry for 2-7 days in a well ventilated area. Sometimes the epoxy resin will harden inside under the lid, making the lid hard to open. Knock around the lid cap with something hard to untighten the lid. The ratio of acetone to epoxy resin can be played with, but be careful adding too much epoxy resin, because the time it takes to harden will be shorter - and then you'll have to pry your rocks out of hardened epoxy and have to get new mason jars. I'd recommend not doing more than 2 batches with the same mix of 4:1, total of 4-5 days. Any longer and the mason jars will get gummy.
