Touching Sharks, Dodging Danger, and extremely Fake Sharks (maybe even worse than jaws!) Let’s Answer Your Questions… Right Now! Hey, shark fans! Thanks for all your jawsome comments and questions—our mission here is to get you totally hooked on sharks, fired up to protect them, and maybe even dream of diving into their world someday. So let’s look at your comments and questions…. I’m sure you’ll be surprised I as take you along for a wild ride with me as we dive in. Shoutout to “mygirlyside” for calling Tiger Sharks “breathtakingly beautiful”—you’re so right! These striped stunners are like the rockstars of the ocean. So, how do we hang with them without becoming shark bait? Easy and not so easy—every dive starts with a mega-important training session aboard the Galley of the Shear Water - a legendary dive operation in Florida and the Bahamas. Jim Abernethy’s Scuba Adventures has been rocking these waters for decades, guiding shark lovers like us to meet these fin-tastic beasts. The briefing? It’s like a shark-diving bootcamp—covering everything from getting into the water, chilling with the sharks, avoiding any trouble - to climbing back on the boat without losing your flippers or a body part. This is dangerous diving - and we don’t take anything for granted… if you know this this channel you know what I’m about to say: I treat every dive like the first dive. I dress the same way for every dive - all in black - and I always do whatever I can to get mentally prepared for each dive. Question two… shark identification - you have the Tiger Sharks, the nurse sharks, the great hammerheads, the reef sharks and the lemon sharks…. Now someone said they’d never heard of a Lemon Shark—These yellow-tinted cuties are total Bahamas VIPs and some of our favorite dive buddies. They’re super photogenic and chill—perfect for snapping (so to speak) that underwater selfie - although the selfie sticks we use in most cases are to keep the Tigers from contacting us directly. Then there’s the Caribbean Reef Sharks, sleek and speedy, and oh—watch out for the occasional Bull Shark! Those bad boys are like the ocean’s sports cars—zooming around so fast you’ve gotta keep ‘em in your sights, or they’ll photobomb your shot from behind - which is never good.. we want to keep the sharks in front of us… always making eye contact. Did you know there are more than 500 shark species out there? Yup, beyond the big names, we’ve got wildcards like the Cookie Cutter Shark—sounds like it’s baking treats, but it’s actually taking tiny bites out of its prey—and the Lantern Shark, glowing like an underwater disco ball! Too cool, right? Now, the million-dollar question: “Can we touch the sharks?” Look, absolute experts who are spending their lives with these animals —like Jim Abernethy, a total shark-whisperer— and captain mike have spent their lives saving these sea puppies. They’re the ones giving the Tiger Sharks the head bumps. Me? I’m just the camera guy, obsessed with nailing the perfect shot for you all. No petting from me—I let the sharks keep their personal space while I play paparazzi! That said, Jim is always eager to teach you how to make friends with a shark by petting the shark and giving it your undivided attention. Final question - are we hurting a shark when we hold it? Our Lemon Shark pal here is using buccal pumping—fancy talk for slurping water through its mouth and pumping that water over its gills to breathe. Not all sharks need to swim 24/7 to survive—like the mako which is ram breathing - some are total couch potatoes of the sea! That said.. when a big animal like this wants to do something else… it can and will… no question. Oh, and one last bite of real talk: everything you see here is 100% legit.I’ve been working with these creatures for more than 20 years…., but now I’ve been battling AI-generated fake shark pics—like, seriously, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok do something about it! Real sharks deserve the spotlight, not some computer’s wannabe knockoffs.
