If you're watching this video, you've probably figured out there is no way to align, adjust or straighten the lawn tractor wheels. That is because the steering linkage drag link is not adjustable. So for lawn tractor steering repair or to adjust the front wheels, it is required to buy steering linkage or drag links. That is not a cheap repair. In my case, the left side drag link was bent, causing the front wheels to toe out. So this is how I modded the non adjustable steering linkage to solve the problem. First, I removed the left side drag link. Then I cut it about 4 inches from the back end of the linkage. I then removed about an inch from the longer piece of the drag link. I did this so I could shorten the linkage if necessary during the alignment. Then I ground a chamfer or bevel on the ends I just cut. Using a 5/8 11 die I threaded each end of the drag link. I used a Hex type die so I could clamp it in the vice. I didn't have a die this big or a decent vice. but I was able to find both of them on Amazon at a very good price. I used to pair of vise grips to hold the rod while cutting the threads. this setup worked very well. if you've never cut threads before it's important to keep the shaft perpendicular to the die when starting the threads. once started, it helps to use a little lubrication to make the cutting easier. cutting oil works the best for the situation. After cutting a full turn you'll want to back off about a half turn to release the metal shavings. I threaded approximately an inch on the short piece of linkage. On the longer piece, I threaded about 4 inches. I made sure there was enough threads to allow for the threaded rod connector and a jam nut. I added Loctite thread locker, then tightened down the threaded rod connector onto the short end of the drag link. Now to align the wheels, all I have to do is unbolt the front ball joint loosen the jam nut, then lengthen or shorten the drag link as needed. I hope this video was helpful. Thanks for watching.
