Welcome back to The Deco Stop! I am glad you found my channel! ✅🤿 Not a Subscriber? The USS Oriskany, an Essex class Naval Aircraft Carrier that was purposely sunk in the Gulf of Mexico outside the Pensacola Pass to become the largest artificial reef off of the United States Coast Line. Come along and we will take you down to 160 feet to see what is lurking at those depths. We are dropping to 160 feet for 40 minutes and working on our tech diving skills as we are both still baby tech divers. We work on our task overloading, our trim and trying to dive our plan with as little variation as we can. The USS Oriskany is a bucket list dive for a lot of divers and thankfully we live right on the panhandle and have it in our backyard, hopefully this video will encourage you to finally get out here and dive it and if not I hope you enjoy the video anyways! Check out H2O Below or Captain Andy with Niuhi Divers if you want to book a trip out. TDI Technical Diving certification, also known as Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures is our highest certification so far. Barry Shively was our instructor and one of the best when it comes to decompression diving. Here is a concise summary of the key points from the video: The video describes a technical dive on the wreck of the USS Oriskany, a decommissioned US Navy aircraft carrier that now serves as an artificial reef. The dive takes the narrator and his dive partner Chris to a depth of 150 feet, where they explore the ship's superstructure and observe marine life like large red snappers and Goliath groupers. The video highlights the benefits of diving with a helium-based gas mixture, which reduces the narcotic effects of nitrogen at depth. It also emphasizes the importance of proper dive planning and execution, with the narrator discussing his dive computer, decompression stops, and techniques for managing hoses and lines. The history of the Oriskany is also covered, noting its service in the Korean and Vietnam wars before being decommissioned, stripped, and finally sunk in 2006 to create an artificial reef. The video touches on the challenges involved in this process. Overall, the video provides an informative look at the technical aspects of diving the Oriskany wreck, while also conveying a sense of the ship's storied past and the vibrant marine ecosystem it now supports.
