How to Launch an OER Project: Ensuring Success While Preserving Sanity

Are you new to OER and wanting to find materials available for your discipline? Have you used OER before and are considering building upon it or collaborating with others? Are you sick of students not buying expensive textbooks, failing your classes, and want to change that? Whether you want to find existing OER or create your own from scratch, this workshop is for you. We will cover the three phases of launching and executing a successful collaborative OER project: Organization, Implementation, and Polishing. Then we will dive into details on the workflow, including how to source resources and make a viable plan, best practices for teamwork and curation, and the review and publication process. The presenter will speak from her personal experience as lead and participant on two OER projects and offer tips for achieving success while preserving sanity. Girded with this knowledge, participants will have the opportunity to sketch out ideas for an OER initiative on their campus, as well as bounce their ideas off others in their discipline and find potential collaborators during an interactive breakout session.
