Motion trails are widely used in animations and video games. It is commonly seen in fast-moving action sequences, where characters or objects leave behind a fading trail, emphasizing speed and direction. However, I realised animators could have a hard time implementing this since their area of expertise might not include the visual effects pipeline. Thus, I wanted to create a Maya tool that generates motion trails without using any technical-based effects like simulations for my Research and Development project. The tool is easy to use and requires no external dependencies. The run time is quick and depends on how many frames the motion trails should last. The user can select between four different textures, along with customisations like colour noise patterns. Overall I am satisfied with the result. There are some improvements which can be done, like allowing users to import there own textures, and the rendering process for the motion trails. I hope my tool can help animators further express their ideas and add more depth to their animations!
