After a quiet morning on the beach at New Aberdour, I head north along Scotland’s beautiful northeast coast in my micro camper “D’Artagnan.” I stop briefly in Banff and Portsoy, then continue inland to Aberlour for a week-long housesit. The village feels peaceful and charming, and I settle in with my feline companion for the stay – a gentle cat named Duchess. During the week, I take a day trip to Inverness and a short stop by Loch Ness before heading deeper into the Highlands. Near the end of my stay, I visit Balvenie Castle – and something unexpected happens: I meet a herd of Highland cows with a young calf. Two of them gently groom each other, and one even lets me stroke her. For me, that moment was unforgettable.
