First video of 2024. The longer I've been a vidder/editor, the more.....indifferent I become to my own pride in my work and abilities. Obviously, I'm not going to upload something until it subjectively looks and sounds its best (or best that I can do). But it feels rare that I am genuinely proud of my own work and actually want to show it off. This video is a rare exception. Today, February 18, marks one year since I watched Trigun Stampede for the first time. David Matranga was announced as Wolfwood the day before and that is what made me want to watch it. But little did I know just how enamored I would become with Wolfwood. And a year later, it's still going strong. It may be biased because he's played by my favorite voice actor, but he's also a really fascinating character. He's so much more complex than people give him credit for. He's not just an effortless badass (tbh that feels like a defense or coping mechanism/facade/response to all his unresolved and internalized trauma), but he buries his emotions as a means of protection and self-preservation. But those walls he built are being chipped away. So I've been working on this video for almost a year. I started it at the end of March last year, even before the Tristamp dub was even finished. Because I was so eager to make a Wolfwood video to this song. This video is unlike anything I've ever done and really isn't my usual editing style. It was very meticulous and more sound focused than visual. Getting the flow and the timing just right so it sounds cohesive was so difficult, but I loved the challenge of it. And in the end, I think it turned out pretty awesome. I tried to include as many of my favorite Wolfwood lines that fit the tone. It was also fun to incorporate sounds other than him speaking. I had fun doing this and I might do another more videos like this in the future. I feel like I've edited Wolfwood and watched his scenes so much now that I have it all saved to memory now. David's performance is just so fucking good. I could not imagine anyone else in this role. There's the badass cynical cool guy persona, but there's also this layer of magnitude in the trauma and vulnerability that Wolfwood buries deep within himself. David Matranga is so perfect for those types of characters. I feel like he gets it and conveys it so beautifully. I'm so excited for Season 2. I hope it won't be too long of a wait, but I also want them to take their time and make it a stunning masterpiece. And I know no one' is going to read this, watch this video, or care, but I'm doing a year long editing project on twitter. I'm posting a Wolfwood edit every Wednesday. It's on my editing account: / _ellemar #trigunstampede #wolfwood #amv glitter and gold by barns courtney nicholas d. wolfwood; trigun stampede s1
