I love Elton John and his style of music. He was my favorite artist growing up in the 70's. What are some of your favorite Elton John songs? "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is a ballad written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It is the title track on John's album of the same name. The titular road is a reference to L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz film and book series. It was one of John's biggest hits, and quickly surpassed his previous single, "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", in both sales and popularity, following its release. The song has been widely praised by critics; some consider it a strong contender for John's finest song ever. In the US, it was certified gold on January 4, 1974 and platinum on September 13, 1995 and 2× platinum on March 2, 2020 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The lyrics, written by Taupin, contain autobiographical elements, referring to his childhood on a farm in Lincolnshire. The song expresses a desire to get back to one's "roots", a common theme of Taupin's early lyrics. Lyrics: [Verse 1] When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land? I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man You know you can't hold me forever I didn't sign up with you I'm not a present for your friends to open This boy's too young to be singin' the blues [Refrain] Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah, ah [Chorus] So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm goin' back to my plough Back to the howlin' old owl in the woods Huntin' the horny-back toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road [Refrain] Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah, ah You might also like Foolish One (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] Taylor Swift Timeless (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] Taylor Swift Electric Touch (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] Taylor Swift [Verse 2] What do you think you'll do, then? I bet they'll shoot down the plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics To set you on your feet again Maybe you'll get a replacement There's plenty like me to be found Mongrels who ain't got a penny Sniffin' for tidbits like you on the ground [Refrain] Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah, ah [Chorus] So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm goin' back to my plough Back to the howlin' old owl in the woods Huntin' the horny-back toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road [Refrain] Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah, ah #goodbyeyellowbrickroad #eltonjohn #pianocover Edited by Ron Bird Audio - Ableton Live 11 Video - DaVinci Sound - Alicia's Keys Arrangement by Aldy Santos
