Sermon Outline with Scripture References Introduction Greatest Commandment → Deuteronomy 6:5, Matthew 22:37 Spiritual warfare is a battle for the mind, heart, soul, and truth in the believer, where we are attacked internally by the flesh’s desires, external unbiblical and ungodly lies, or possibly external demonic forces. All of these attacks the Greatest Commandment. How do we stand firm (Eph. 6:10-13) against these attacks? → Armor of God Ephesians 6:14 Belt of Truth: central to the uniform, holds the weapon, pulls it all together Attacks on truth Genesis 3:1-6 – question God’s Word Matthew 4:1-11 – twist God’s Word 2 Corinthians. 10:5 – contradict God’s Word God is Truth → John 17:17, John 14:6 Breastplate of Righteousness: Christ’s righteousness protects our hearts from slanderous attacks regarding righteousness and unrighteousness Believers have Christ’s righteousness → Philippians 3:9, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 8:33-34, Zechariah 3:1-5 You can’t stand w/out His righteousness →Revelation 6:15-17 vs. 7:9-14 Ephesians 6:15 Shoes that Carry the Gospel of Peace: protect your feet, help you stand firm and advance in battle, and it is the truth you stand on Isaiah 52:7 – The Message of Peace We have peace with God (Romans 5:1), salvation in Christ (Isaiah 9:2, John 6:35), be happy and rejoice (John 8:56-58), salvation is known (Titus 2:11-14), Our God Reigns (Philippians 2:9-11, Psalm 110:1) God says “come” (Matthew 11:28), and then “Go” (Matthew 28:18-20) Contend for the faith (Jude 1:3) Revelation 21:6-8 Conclusion Takaways 1. Know and trust that God and His Word are true (Eph. 6:14a). 2. You have Christ’s righteousness, and that protects you (Eph. 6:14b). 3. Go carry the Good News (Gospel of Peace) forward (Eph. 6:15). 4. Advance, stand firm, contend for the faith, and bring peace (Eph. 6:15). 5. Compromising on the Gospel means compromising a strong footing, a deadly mistake (Eph. 6:15). Summary: God has dressed us in His armor and has given us everything we need for the Christian life and to advance the Gospel. This does not mean we will be free of opposition. On the contrary, we must stand firm, advance, contend for the faith continually, and never compromise the faith with an enemy or his followers who only want to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10, Eph 2:1-3).
