On the occasion of World Lion Day 2025, dedicating a special musical tribute to my most favourite lion duo of Gir, Jay & Veeru. I had the fortunate opportunity to name these two royal and handsome Asiatic lions of Gir whose presence was unmatched. Have been visiting Gir for 4 decades, have come across many lions but none like Jay and Veeru. The two souls stood out for their bond, bravery and unmatched presence. They were symbols of inseparable friendship and fearless leadership in the wild. Their journey, marked by territorial adventures, captured the hearts of wildlife lovers and forest veterans alike. From occasional sibling-like tussles to their unspoken pledge of never parting, Jay and Veeru became legends of Gir, embodying the rare kind of brotherhood that echoes through the jungle even after their passing. The two were inseparable and undefeatable together. In the early hours of May 28, 2025, around 3 AM, tragedy struck. Jay and Veeru were caught alone and severely injured in a brutal territorial fight with rival Kasiya lions. Thanks to the swift action of the forest trackers, they were taken to Sasan Gir Hospital, where they received the best possible treatment and care. The Forest Department of Gujarat, along with devoted veterinarians and hospital staff, worked around the clock to save them. But despite everyone’s tireless efforts, Veeru passed away on June 11. His brother Jay, unable to live with the loss, took his final breath on July 29. This musical tribute is an ode to that unbreakable bond. The song “Jay Veeru Ni Jodi” encapsulates their legacy — a farewell to the roars that once ruled Gir, and a celebration of their eternal companionship.
