Excellent (Re)Entry to EDF Jets: E-flite UMX Mig 15 DF BNF

I have a confession to make: electric ducted fan (EDF) jets scare me! I had owned and flow three of them in the past, but I was never comfortable with them. Now that I am back to the RC hobby after an 8-year hiatus, I am itching to pick up where I had left EDF jets. It had not been a good place; a flight that had ended in a crash and a destroyed EDF jet. So, I have been looking for a gentle reentry to EDF jets. When my friend Scott (a.k.a. "Maverick") from our local AeroJunkies RC group told me that there is a used E-flite UMX Mig 15 DF BNF that someone is selling, I just jumped on it and told Scott to get it for me. It was only $50, but it turned out to be the previous generation model and with a broken front landing gear. I think it was still a good deal: https://www.hobbyzone.com/eflite/airp... I purchased two inexpensive "compatible" batteries from HobbyKing for $6.38 each, which were rated 300mAh instead of the 200mAh stock E-flite batteries: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-n... A $3.50 landing gear replacement set fixed the broken gear, and I bound this DSMX/DSM2-compatible UMX plane to my RadioMaster TX16S OpenTX transmitter, and I was good to go:    • RadioMaster TX16S with HALL Sensor Gimbals...   Before I knew it, I was our on the field flying it in formation with my friend Steve's (a.k.a. "Captain Chaos") newer generation E-flite UMX Mig 15 DF BNF. This little UMX jet turned out to be the perfect reentry for me, and I recommend it to any RC pilot interested in getting into EDF jets.
