4 Railroads in 1 Day - Trains Around Southern Illinois on 3/8/26

A great day of railfanning on a warm Sunday afternoon on March 8, 2026 (first day of daylight savings time). I managed to catch a nice variety of 4 trains in 3 hours, across CN, NS, BNSF and Amtrak. First catch of the day was a northbound CN manifest train in Centralia, IL, featuring CN 8358 on point; a freshly rebuilt SD75I. CN 3177 was the trailing locomotive (ET44AC). I then headed a few miles south to Irvington, and caught the 5:00pm northbound Amtrak "Illini" train flying through town. Just a few minutes later, a southbound BNSF loaded coal train rolled by on the CN Centralia Sub with BNSF 8422 leading (SD70ACe), BNSF 2222 (AC44CW) trailing, and BNSF 9206 (SD70ACe) as rear-train DPU. The final catch of the day was NS intermodal train 223, headed east through Albers on the NS Southern-West District. This train featured a quartet of power, led by NS 8055 (ES44AC). NS 4682 (AC44C6M), NS 4526 (AC44C6M), and NS 7521 (ES40DC) were the trailing locomotives. Thanks for watching!
