Ancient Finke River: Palm Valley Secrets: Red Center: Australia.

This special adventure takes us into the very center of the Red Center of Australia. We explore a section of the dried up bed of the ancient Finke River, the oldest river on Earth. The Finke River flowed across Pangaea, 300 million years ago. Pangaea was a single supercontinent made up of nearly all the land mass on Earth. It began to drift apart some 200 million years ago and through geological time produced the continents and oceans of today. Palm Valley Leaving our 4 by 4 vehicle we entered Palm Valley with it's stunning scenery, mysterious plants and Dreamtime Creation Stories, which have been handed down over thousands of years by the indigenous Aboriginal Peoples. We walked the Arankaia trail which heads up through Palm Valley, then climbs up onto a sandstone plateau with superb views, before looping back to the trailhead. The valley is home to the rare Red Cabbage Palm. The palms are remnants of a tropical rain-forest that covered the region 60 million years ago. Cycads are very rare ancient plants and are found in Palm Valley. They were common around 250 million years ago and even predate the earliest Dinosaurs Dreamtime Creation Stories add an extra magical dimension to this very special place. Enjoy the video.
