A Quiet Evening in Udaipur — A Closed Cathedral and a Welcoming Home Before heading to my accommodation, I asked Gugan to make a small detour. I had discovered that Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral was nearby, and although I had missed the 10.30 am Mass, I still wanted to visit. When we arrived, the gates were locked and the church was closed — a little disappointing, but I was glad to have seen it nonetheless. Directly opposite stood St Paul’s Secondary School, a reminder of the strong Christian presence in this part of the city. From there, we continued to my accommodation for the next two nights — a homestay, very much like an Airbnb, run by a husband and wife who live on the property. The house is large and elegant, and my room is enormous, complete with a balcony overlooking the Monsoon Palace perched high on the hill. It felt peaceful, comfortable, and immediately welcoming. So this evening, I’m simply relaxing, writing up my journal, and enjoying the quiet after a full day of travel and discovery. Tomorrow at 9, Gugan will collect me again so I can meet my guide in the city and continue exploring Udaipur. A gentle end to a rich and varied day — and a lovely beginning to my time in the City of Lakes.
