Arpeggio - How and Why to Use on a Piano • Arpeggio - How and Why to Use on a Piano Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” In this video, Scott shows you how to play arpeggios on a piano or keyboard. Using arpeggios is a great way to make your bass line more interesting and can be used as a terrific aid when improvising or getting out of a tune! What exactly is an Arpeggio? An arpeggio occurs when you play the notes of a chord in succession but not playing them at the same time. The notes are played separately, in some pattern but not together. Arpeggios can go up or down. When played in your left hand, arpeggios truly can make your bass line come to life! In the video, Scott demonstrates many ways to play arpeggios in your left hand using patterns to make the bass line more compelling. What’s more, using arpeggios in your right hand in an arpeggiated pattern can certainly be a fantastic tool to support you while improvising! Again, several examples will be shown to help you learn how to incorporate arpeggios tastefully into your soloing. Finally, another great way to utilize arpeggios is as an ending for a tune. In our style of playing, you are always looking for a way to end your song. Arpeggios really provide an easy, dramatic way to get out of a tune! Be sure to take full advantage of them! Houston’s life goal is to help you learn to play piano through piano lessons that you can take anywhere and at any time to get you started having some fun at a piano or keyboard as quickly as possible.
