On Capitalist Realism and Acid Communism: The Video. At Fast Forward 2017 we held a workshop examining the work of the theorist Mark Fisher, who died earlier this year. Mark was an important influence on many in Plan C, as a thinker, comrade and friend and the workshop was partly driven by a desire to embed his ideas and approach within our ongoing work. The workshop, which can be watched on the video below, begins with a presentation by Keir Milburn discussing Mark’s seminal book, Capitalist Realism, the context within which it was written and the one in which it was received. He then compares those times to the situation within which we now find ourselves. He asks questions such as: Are we seeing the first cracks in Capitalist Realism? If so how should we change what we do and think? The presentation, and the excellent discussion that followed, then went on to discuss how Mark’s ideas developed after Capitalist Realism, including his ideas on popular modernism, consciousness raising and, in particular, Mark’s work towards his unfinished book, Acid Communism. Participants were advised to prepare for the workshop by: a. (Re)reading Capitalist Realism: http://www.zero-books.net/books/capit... b. Watching the video embedded here: https://www.weareplanc.org/blog/towar... c. Or by engaging with any of Mark’s other works gathered here: https://egressac.wordpress.com/
