The cost of buying a home could be slashed by up to 40 per cent for more than 10,000 Australians under the Labor party's NEW 'Shared Equity' initiative. This week, the Australian Labor party announced their 'Help to Buy' scheme ahead of the federal election, which will provide an equity contribution of 40% of the purchase price of a new home and up to 30% for an existing dwelling for eligible Australians. The scheme aims to reduce the cost of homeownership for 10,000 Australians a year, by allowing the government to purchase up to 40 per cent of the equity in their house. Under the scheme, a homebuyer will also avoid Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI), but will still require a 2% deposit to qualify for a standard loan. The scheme will be available to Australians with an income of up to $90,000 for individuals and $120,000 for couples. According to Albanese, the scheme will enable savings up to $380,000 for new homes and $285,000 for existing ones, with price caps of between $550,000 and $950,000 depending on the state and region. The key points from the recent announcement are: ✅ Labour plans to ask the government to pay 30% or 40% of property costs! ✅.
