TRANSCRIPT: My name is Dr. David Zhao, I'm chief of Cardiovascular Medicine and the executive director of the Heart and Vascular Center at Wake Forest Baptist Health. I'm an interventional cardiologist, so I am certified in Interventional Cardiology and also in Cardiovascular Medicine. My primary interest is in using minimally invasive, catheter-based therapy for coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome, aortic valve disease, mitral valve disease, and adult congenital heart diseases. I actually was born to a medicine family starting from my grandfather- my parents- they were all physicians. So from a very young age, I was very interested and wanted to do only one thing: become a doctor. And that's how I decided to go to medical school. And after graduation, cardiology is really the one that interested me and attracted me, so I went with cardiovascular initially as a surgeon- trained in cardiovascular surgery- and then changed it to cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology when I came to this country 27 years ago. What differentiates us from others is really the quality of care we provide and the compassion we deliver our care with. Wake Forest delivers some of the most innovative, advanced, and high quality care in the region. And at that same time, we really try to deliver that care with compassion, with love, and with care to our patients. In my practice, many of those patients are elderly, and many of those patients are really limited in terms of their activities, their quality of life, because of their illness. They have heart failure, they have valve disease, they come in with a heart attack. And those patients are coming in really sick and those are patients with very complex situations. So I think the best part is really being able to help those patients and the joys that when you see those patients walk out of the hospital- when they came in, they almost died- and a few months later- and you see them 80- 90-years-old, go dancing and go to dinner and enjoy their grandchild. And I think that's the best part of providing care to those patients.
