The Problem with Giant Saws in Ancient Egypt

Let's test and explore this controversial theory put forward by Christopher Dunn in his Giza Power Plant blog and books. Did the ancient Egyptians use water-powered circular saws to cut granite? This video explores that controversial possibility in depth. We examine claims that precision granite cuts with curved bottoms—allegedly only possible with large circular blades—could indicate the use of saw technology far ahead of its time. By tracing the technical evolution of waterwheels, wooden gearing, and mechanical power transfer from early paddled boats to Roman-era sawmills, we ask whether such tools could have existed as early as Egypt’s Old Kingdom. Using a forensic engineering approach, we search for circumstantial evidence in quarry geography, tool mark patterns, and lost infrastructure, particularly around the recently identified Ahramat Branch—a now-dry Nile tributary that may have once powered industrial-scale sawmills. While no direct archaeological remains of ancient Egyptian waterwheels or gearing systems have yet been found before the Greco-Roman era, this video considers whether the technology may have existed and been lost. We break down the necessary components—rotational axles, wooden gears, drive shafts, circular blades—and investigate if even partial versions appear in Egyptian history. Could the enormous granite blocks of the pyramids and temples have been roughed and finished using such machines? Why do some granite pieces show marks consistent with modern saws, and why is there no evidence of widespread mechanical power use in Egypt at that time? We weigh both sides of the argument, including analogies from later Roman water mills and engineering from Hierapolis that clearly used water power to cut stone. We map all major quarry sites—Aswan, Wadi Hammamat, Tura—and analyze how block transport via Nile canals and branches may have supported a two-stage process of roughing and final fitting. We also consider why, if this technology existed, it didn’t spread to other Egyptian industries like grain milling, pumping, or hammering. Ultimately, we ask if the absence of evidence is due to nonexistence—or simply loss. The video doesn't claim to prove the water-powered saw existed in the pyramid age but rather assembles a cloud of circumstantial evidence to test that possibility and see whether the effects (precise stone cuts) suggest the missing cause (an early water-powered machine). All footage, maps, models, and technical reconstructions are designed to spark curiosity and challenge assumptions about what we think we know regarding the true capabilities of ancient civilizations. If the pyramids required tools equal to the task, could those tools have come and gone—leaving only the stones behind? #AncientEgypt #WaterPoweredSaws #PyramidTechnology #LostTechnology #ArchaeologyMystery #GizaGranite #GraniteSaws #UnchartedX #HistoryDebunked #AncientMachines #EgyptianQuarries #CircularSawTheory #HiddenHistory #WaterwheelTech #AncientEngineering #StoneCuttingMystery #HierapolisSawmill #NileCanal #AncientPrecision #ArchaeologicalTheories #GraniteBlocks #MysteryOfThePyramids #ForbiddenTech #AncientCivilizations #AncientTools #StoneSaws #GizaPyramids #LostEngineering #AncientEgypt #PyramidEngineering #Egyptology #LostTechnology #AncientMysteries #HydraulicEngineering #Archaeology #MegalithicStructures #AncientMechanisms #EngineeringHistory
